SHINGLETOWN EMERGENCY RADIO

Field Emergency Communications Plan - Volunteers in action to save life.

Resources:  Sample Radio Go Box.  Sample  Star Link Mini

Sample Ham Radio Go Box.

Radio with battery contained in box. Antenna and Coax are attached via connection at side of box.

Uses include:  Field station monitoring fire from lookout and providing reports into Fire Net, Mobile Evacuation Net, etc... .  Also could be used as a Control station for Fire Net / Evacuation Net when radio operator has arrived in a safe field position (outside of the danger zone).

Sample Star Link Mini - Field set up.

Uses include:  Field station having moved out of Wild Fire Evacuation zone and located at a safe location. Radio Operator would relay reports and information into the Fire Net / Mobile Evacuation Net using Internet Resources (e.g., Cal Fire Cameras, Sheriff internet notifications, etc...).

During May, 2026, a PG&E Shingletown Equipment Repair Outage resulted in reports as to loss of Frontier Land Line; Frontier Internet; and Cell Phone communications during the outage. Thus, some people had no way to make a 911 call without radio relay. This plan incorporates using both Star Link Mini AND Radio for emergency communications.
