After Action:    Revised script tested.  Net time was reduced from previous 18-19 minutes down to 11 minutes. This is important as the “routine” net elements can be quickly done so that during an emergency other functions can concurrently be done (e.g., a fire net). Other relays (e.g., Backup / 9 relay…) will add more time (but such also facilitates training for participants as to net operations).  Main net structure is now running on 3 parallel / concurrent operations Channels (9; 55; 57).  Additionally, each neighborhood has its own primary net frequency (except Village which uses 9). Other neighborhoods should attempt to increase participation in their neighborhoods so they can provide reports from and between Area neighbors as is done with Village and Midway.

2025 08 10 – Coleman Incident  (VL  L10 Transmitted incident alert – thank you L10).  1-2 acre slow rate of spread wildcat Rd / Manton.  Structures immediate threat. After Action:

2025 07 24 -  Work trip to Latour to work on Repeaters (all day).

1355 hours - Radio Reports  (S6 and MWM)   Starlite satelite down. This was a major Starlite outage.

2025 07 18  IMPORTANT – Periodic Noise on EROC 9 (Ground Crews fighting fire).

Cal fire is working the Green Fire (North of Shingletown) (18,212 acres). You may have been hearing on EROC 9 periodic bleed through from Ground Crews working the fire. Cal Fire uses MURS at times and is using the same frequency as EROC 9. The PL tones are different; however, they must be using very high power and such “opens” your radios for a short time.

You may find this disruptive / annoying.  BUT PLEASE DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR RADIOS.

 HERE IS YOUR PLAN:

 1.  MONITOR CHANNEL 10  (put in both Row A and Row B in uv5r’s etc…).  By doing this you should hear Channels 55, 56 and 57 (depending on locations). You can only listen on Channel 10.

2.  If YOU must activate (e.g., an emergency, etc…) you MUST TRANSMIT ON EROC 9,  AND CH 55  AND  CH 57 (i.e., all three just like we do during our weekly nets).

THIS APPLIES TO ALL OPERATORS (HAMS AND NON HAMS). Some operators may only be able to transmit on 9,  so use that. Our EROC 9 transmissions should not impact Cal Fire since we are using lower power, toned differently and they should “capture” their more local transmissions. However, if there is interference, conduct all operations only on  Ch 55 (Repeater at Latour Butte) and Ch 57 (Repeater in Village).

If both repeaters were to go down use Simplex Ch  56  and 58.

 3.  Work together to conduct net operations as needed (just like we do during our weekly nets).

 4.  Take a breath. Relax.  You practice each week.  Just follow the plan. If you make a mistake, just fix it and keep moving.

 Thank you.

Nathan

-STATIONS MUST STAY ON NET UNTILL NET DEACTIVATED.

-CONTROL STATIONS – ONLY WAIT 3 SECONDS FOR RESPONSE, THEN MOVE ON.

-NEED TO SHORTEN BASIC CORE NET TIME. CONTROL IS WORKING EROC 9; 55 AND 57; MAPPING 1 AND 160 TC.  THIS DELAYS NET ON 9 BECAUSE 9 IS PAUSED WHILE CONTROL ACTS AS RELAY 55 AND RELAY 57.  NEXT WEEK,ANOTHER STATION TO BE 55 / 57 RELAY SO REPORTS AND NET OPS  ARE ABLE TO BE  CONDUCTED SIMULTANEOUSLY  ON ALL ACTIVATED PLAN FREQUENCIES. WE ARE PREPARING FOR EMERGENCIES (E.G., WILDFIRE, EVACUATIONS, ETC…).

-DUE TO THE LACK OF HAMS. OUR NON HAMS ARE CRITICAL TO NET OPS FOR EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS.  FOR PRACTICE NETS, THE HAM REPEATER CONTROL OPERATOR IS AT  CONTROL POINT.

After Action:   Note: We have had major storms today and substantial snow.

We did the “new” script. It shows more detail so that stations have more instruction. The “new” script reflects the modifications and improvements done since the prior version.

55 Summary and 56 Summary were deleted from Plan based on Net Ops Practice. We do NOT have enough help to perform the bullet point summary (e.g., 55 Summary; 56 Summary) for others not participating. During nets, F1 (ham) is performing 4 functions (with 3 radios) and if we had an emergency the workload may have to increase by at least 1 or 2 more radios and other tacticals (e.g., camera, winds, Triangulation, et…). Such is too much.  We will only be able to do summaries on the Frequencies that we conduct Net Operations. We have to focus on the people  / Areas who are helping to do the work. More stations are stepping up to perform functions. That is good.

Moving from 58 to 56 (or visa versa) may improve ability to copy Wilson Hill

Sites propagation is still bad (difficult terrain). Sites did not copy  9 Relay East. Sites had 7” of snow (antenna covered by ice  & snow).  Sites and Wilson Hill were Q4 / Q5 both ways on Eroc 56.   MW1 did NOT hear 9 Relay West.
