Islamic Terrorist Attack NYC – Be alert.

Islamic inspired Terrorist Bomber  – NYC Subway (“4 hurt”):

According to police, it was “absolutely an attempted terrorist act.” The bomber, now identified as 27-year-old Akayed Ullah, was walking in one of the tunnels underneath NYC’s Port Authority when the bomb went off. ..  living in the U.S. for 7 years. .. a Bangladeshi immigrant, and police say the attack was definitely a terrorist act, inspired by ISIS. FDNY says a total of 4 people were hurt in the bombing … all non-life-threatening injuries…” [NOTE wording – “attempted terrorist act” … “4 people hurt”   such wording appears to be an attempt to diminish the attack.  Why?]

The enemy is in our country. They will be striking at the time and place of their choosing.  Our government officials (federal and state), have facilitated the importation and distribution of these enemies within our country, and in YOUR neighborhoods.

Be alert for:  vehicle attacks; stabbings, explosive devices, forest fires, sniper shots (even in remote areas) …  Islamic based terrorism has issued directives for their operatives to use all of these methods, and others.

Tueller Drill / Reactionary Gap Drill – Range Record

During my full course for initial CCW (14 hour holster class), I have each student perform the Tueller Drill. Since my class size is limited to no more than 4 students, I take the time for this vital training during the full 14 hour holster course. California law requires a 12 hour course of instruction.

The Sheriff has advised (in a prior meeting with all county wide CCW instructors) that CCW holders were drawing their firearms “too soon”.

In my view, merely discussing the Tueller / Reactionary Gap Drill is not sufficient. Students need to actually conduct the physical drill in an effort to  bridge the gap which exists between a  mental thought process and the physical world.

One must also recognize that the Tueller Drill is most likely the best possible situation  you will be in.  It only gets worse! During the Drill, the student is expecting the “attack” and the “attacker”, during live fire drill,  is observing the student and making sure he doesn’t trip. In the real world, the attacker will be hitting you like a steamroller, and you will not be expecting the attack. You may experience a denial response during which you find yourself  questioning whether the attack is really even happening.  Further, a determined adversary may continue to stab or bludgeon you even after you have shot him in vital organs which “should have stopped him”.

This exercise not only helps students recognize when they should or should not draw their firearm (which is a different standard than when you should fire the shot), but also the critical importance of the Color Code of Mental Awareness.   It also brings into focus other training factors, such as: moving  off of the line of attack, recognizing pre-attack indicators, the importance of on body carry,  the importance of a good / proper holster, positioning of the firearm on your body, etc… .

The drill also brings into focus that your attacker is in fact closing distance. Thus, your method of drawing and deploying your firearm must take that into account.  It may be that the attacker is in full body contact with you by the time your firearm is out. Have you practiced for a body  contact shot with weapon retention? Or,  did you go full extension and “hand the gun” to the attacker as he closed on you? Or, as you draw the firearm is it pointing at the ground – so firing a shot will not even hit the attacker when he is 1 foot in front of you? Are you blocking the knife with your “off hand”?

Also, a range record may be useful for your Attorney to use in explaining your training, and showing why you drew your firearm when you did.

My range record sheet has changed over the years. Attached is the current copy HERE

Wildfires emphasize need to improve emergency alert systems – SFGate

This is not about firearms, but about emergency preparedness.

A SF Gate Articles advises that California Wildfires emphasize the need to improve emergency alert systems- article HERE.

At a community emergency Ham Radio Plan has been designed by N. Zeliff. It has been published and being used locally – see details HERE.  Local operators assist in making improvements as we conduct drills and observe real world events.  The system was designed for the local community to use in cases of: Earthquakes, Wildfires, and Situation Reporting (snow storms, power outages, need firewood, need propane, need medical, etc…).  In our area, we have had snow storms, power outages that lasted a week, and had no land line or cell phone. So – who are you going to call?  When there is several feet of snow on the ground, the power is out, and you have no communications, the silence is deafening.

We have had the Ponderosa fire – it was difficult to obtain up to date information.  Moreover, during a  recent fire, I  set up and acted as a mobile Net Control near a fire (seven spot fires), as another radio operator reported into the net from a home base station with Calfire and other dispatches. Other mobile operators also provided reports.   Our communications were short, professional, informative and scheduled every 15 minutes during such an event. Non Ham radio operators listened and were able to learn in real time the status of the fires which were burning near their homes.

For local  participating stations, criteria for issuing an ALERT TONE are set forth. Any participating station operator can send the ALERT TONE on designated frequencies to activate an emergency net.   It will only work if citizens become involved.  We have the local STARC  radio club helping out along with other Ham Radio Operators. You don’t have to join anything.  Just turn on your radio (and leave it on 24/7), and follow the plan. If you are in Shasta County, California, please join in. If you are located elsewhere in the United States, why not set up a program for your area?  The smoke reporting program was designed from scratch.  It is NOT a substitute for 911.

The SF Gate article, illustrated the need for Citizens to take responsibility for their own well being. The article advised:

1. As massive wildfires spread across the North Bay area, Sonoma County officials decided against sending a mass text alert to residents’ cell phones. One concern was that the Officials didn’t want to cause unnecessary panic. In this regard, such may have been fatal for persons who couldn’t evacuate.

2. Other issues included:  “when the fire burns or the flood wipes out cell towers, if the lines go down, how do you notify people when every second counts? …

The reality is that in our mountain area, by the time 911 is called and response arrives, a forest fire could become very large.  Also, it is difficult to determine the source of smoke due to the shifting winds and hills.

With a network of Ham operators, a system has been designed for the purpose of seeking to triangulate on sources of potential smoke / fire using radio reports. It isn’t perfect, but it was used in my neighborhood to locate the source of smoke by smell, wind direction, mapping, etc… .

Thank you.

This is the ONLY e-mail I received from you.  I enter my e-mail account multiple times a day, and have new e-mails throughout the day (I send and receive).

I have still never received the e-mail advising me to take down the content. I had sent you a request for permission; however, my first response from you was  the”clown” comment on your facebook and the derogatory postings. As per my e-mail (below) I already removed the content.

Request is made that you please remove all the derogatory and comment strings from your facebook  account  (and any other sources). They are false. I will  then remove my response on my blog in order to move forward.

Please advise.

Thank you.

This will be the fourth email I sent to you from three different accounts.  The first two seemed to go through.

I got this error message on the third message.

This message was created automatically by the mail system (ecelerity).

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

You might want to check your email system.

I don’t know if this one will go through or not, but I’ll give it one more try.  I responded to your original query (3 times) asking you to remove my content.

I had written you for permission for the posting. I believe this was done through your on line contact form.  As I recall, I had advised that if you didn’t agree, that I would remove the information (you should have the post in your system). However, the first I learned of any “response” was by finding your derogatory comment on facebook (December 6, 2017).  That was only because I did a search for ShastaDefense. I don’t know where you are sending your e-mails, but my e-mail is set forth above. You could have called me, e-mailed me at the above address, or used the U.S. Mail. But,for some reason you decided to refer to me as a “clown”, encouraging your blog followers to make unprofessional and derogatory remarks (which are continuing).

You have continued to falsely advise persons that you have written me several times me, and that I haven’t responded. Again, no e-mails were received by me, except for your Blog Mailings that you send to subscribers for your articles (for which I unsubscribed today). Moreover I called and left a voice message for you this morning (California Time) and have received no response.

All article references had very clear attribution to your site and you. None were even remotely claimed to be my work.  The most recent had very large print at the top of the article with your link.

They have all been removed. If you see any left, please advise and I will remove.

Contrary to your blog followers, the defense network continues with permission.  They are professional and welcomed my promotion and referral of visitors to their site.

Comments on your blog are demeaning and false.

  ———-END OF    E-MAILS  ———-
Today, December 6, 2017, I found negative comments on FACE Book from  as to my  linking and posting of his articles. I only found the negative comments after my making a search.
On December 6, I wrote Active Response Training, after viewing the negative comments, as follows (through his Comments input form, because I couldn’t find a telephone number or other e-mail).-  My webs site is ShastaDefense. I have been posting your articles (excerpts with links to your site).  All were linked directly to your website with full attribution. Recently I posted an entire article and WROTE you via e-mail (this was actually his comment form) asking if that was okay with you. I didn’t receive any response. I viewed your articles as informative and educational.
I have not received any e-mail from you. It was only because I did a search that I found your negative statement. My phone number is 530-474-3267. Please call to discuss. If you desire that I stop linking to your articles I will do so. It would be appreciated if you would speak or communicate with me.”
I only found out about the “problem” by doing a search on face book. I didn’t receive any phone call or e-mail from you. A professional approach would have been to contact me, and not make derogatory comments. Or, you could have responded to my communication to you on this subject.
I viewed the articles and information as being very informative, and important for CCW  holders to learn. However, I am removing links to Active Response Training articles.  I will stop referring persons to your  resource. Your unprofessional comments and false statement about having contacted me diminishes your credibility. I have my direct telephone number on my  my web site and my mailing address. You also have my  direct e-mail address.  You could have simply made contact. The unprofessional comments that you and your followers made  are not justified.
Active Response Training could have merely responded to my recent communication concerning posting of articles (permission request) (beyond partial information posting with a link  to the full article at your site) which I made  before   Response Training made false statements.
December 6, 2017, I located a number for you and called (morning, California time). I left a voice message.  However, I still haven’t received any communication from you on this subject.  The links to your articles have been removed . If you see any left over, please advise and I will remove them also.  I know persons were learning of your site through my links and my classes.
I had recently started printing out a few of your key articles (at my cost, and at no charge to my students). My name wasn’t even on the pages (they were just stapled and handed out  to a few students – e.g., suicide bombers, surviving vehicle attacks). I did this because I felt the content was important so that people would become aware, and maybe save a family from a bomber, etc… . That was all at additional cost to me and the only contact information on the page was YOUR BLOG.  That process has now stopped. My CCW classes seek to instruct students.  I routinely am advised by students that in my 4 hour renewal classes (required under California law), that I cover important matters that were not even addressed by other instructors in their FULL  original 12 hour class.

Does your community have an emergency radio communications plan?

3rd Southern California wildfire breaks out

CBS News 2 hours 38 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES — A third Southern California wildfire has broken out on the northern edge of Los Angeles, sweeping across 200 acres and forcing the closure of a major stretch of freeway. Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby said the fire in Santa Clarita started at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. CBS Los Angeles reports that officials named it the Rye Fire. Flames were burning in light to medium fuels amid wind gusts as much as 30 miles per hour, authorities said. The I-5 Freeway was closed in both directions due to the fire, CBS Los Angeles reported. The fire appeared to be linked to a power outage that left the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s 911 system offline, authorities said. The Sylmar …
